Marrow Gallery presents the work of Mae Aur. Exploring mysticism and human connection, Mae Aur undertakes the representation of universal truths that encompass both physical and metaphysical relationships. Aur uses color, shapes, exaggerated forms, and symbols to share visual narratives. The imagery can be understood with intuition and emotion before language. Environment, love, loss, identity, duality, connection, communication, and growth are some of the themes the artist explores. Particularly poignant in current uncertainty, Aur’s figures grapple with each other, demons pulling and waiting, yet the figures don’t yield, instead the quiet strength of the divine feminine is unwavering. 

About Mae Aur:

Mae Aur is an artist from the American South, brought up in a Brazilian, Lebanese, and British home. This multicultural upbringing shaped perceptions of the vast world from a young age. Mae's multimedia practice includes metal, clay, costume, and performance, but in recent years has focused on painted, hand-cut wood sculpture. Her work is colorful and whimsical, and sheds light on themes relevant to and beyond worldly life. Relationships with herself and others, communication, femininity in contemporary society, and environment are some of the topics she explores. Inspired by craft and form, she meticulously hand-cuts wood and transforms it into an often unrecognizable material. Her work is currently on view at the Crystal Bridges Museum of Art in Bentonville, AK.
